  200. Oldies For the Afficionado
  201.  
  202.       Hallicrafters S-36 with R-42 speaker, VHF, used extensively
  203.         for VHF development and "spy" work during WWII, excellent:
  204. $179
  205.       National SW-3 with a lot of coils, manual, speaker, power
  206. supply,
  207.         coil box, really a fine collector's item, excellent+: $695
  208.       E. M. Sargent WAC-44 GC receiver, made in 1940. In wonderful
  209.         working condition and excellent cosmetic condition. But 5 of
  210.         the knobs are not original. No mods. So how rare is it? Well,
  211.         let's put it this way: Have you ever seen one advertised for
  212.         sale before anywhere? At any price? This radio would be a
  213.         highlight in any pre-war collection: $695
  214.       Hallicrafters SX-28A, 1941-vintage classic GC receiver, in very
  215. good
  216.         working condition with matching speaker and original manual:

  218.       Johnson Ranger I, 1954 160-10 meter TX, original dark paint
  219. colors,
  220.         works perfectly, front panel is excellent but the case has
  221. many
  222.         chips and scratches. No manual. $169
  223.       Johnson Viking phone patch, small and simple: $19
  224.       Eico 770K CB radio, tube-type, looks identical to Eico 720 ham
  225.         transmitter. Complete and looks good, untested. $39
  226.       National SW-54, cute low-end SWL radio from the 50's. Excellent
  227.         cosmetic condition. Untested. $91
  228.       National NC-188. Really uncommon and ugly, poor-performing
  229. radio
  230.         made by National in the 60s. Hard to find as few were sold
  231. (no
  232.         wonder!). The design has a long horizontal dial splt into
  233. tuning
  234.         on the left and ham bandspread on the right (like the
  235. Hallicrafters
  236.         SX-71). This one works but is made even uglier by a fair case
  237. and
  238.         one surface rust spot on the front panel. $91

  240. Radio Direction Finders
  241.  
  242. Heathkit Marine, this is a small, squarish, two-tone paint,
  243. miniature-tube
  244. design with the flat ferrite-core rotatable antenna on top, with
  245. N-E-S-W
  246. markings shown on a large dial. It is nice enough, though it needs
  247. some
  248. cleanup and has one unoriginal knob. It works. Listed in the 1963
  249. Heath
  250. catalog. $85
  251.  
  252. RCA AR-8711 "Radio Direction Finder." Designed for marine use, this is
  253. (I
  254. am guessing by the miniature tubes and TUNING EYE!) a mid-50s radio
  255. that
  256. covers 150 khz - 5.5 mhz. The front panel is a neat deco layout with
  257. the old
  258. RCA logo mounted in the center of the speaker. It has a 20" diameter,
  259. 1/2"
  260. thick metal loop mounted on a N-E-S-W calibrated swivel on top. This
  261. comes out
  262. to an PL-259 plug. Just add an extension and you have a really great
  263. 160 meter
  264. antenna to go with your conversation piece. The radio itself is
  265. untested but
  266. looks brand new inside--quality construction throughout. Requires an
  267. external
  268. power supply which I do not have. Knobs are not original.
  269. Battleship-grey
  270. case is scratched but the front panel is very good. $105

  299.         National NC-300, 1960-vintage ham band receiver with XCU-300
  300.           calibrator, very good cosmetic and working condition: $129
  301.         Hammarlund HQ-129X GC receiver. This is the nicest one of
  302. these
  303.           I have ever seen. If you've looked for a 129X, you know
  304. that
  305.           they develop bad wear marks around the knobs, ruining the
  306. looks
  307.           of the front panel. This one HAS NONE OF THAT. This radio
  308. is
  309.           near-mint inside and out. With crystal calibrator and
  310. manual
  311.           photocopy. $129
  312.         RME 4350. As shown in the Moore book. Nice condition,
  313. complete,
  314.           untested. $105
  315.         Hallicrafters HT-37 transmitter, 1963, in positively
  316. wonderful
  317.           condition, paint sparkles, front panel is showroom-grade,
  318.           with original manual and dow-key relay: $139
  319.         Hallicrafters HT32A transmitter, 80-10 meters, very, very
  320. nice.

  322.         Hallicrafters SX101A receiver, works great, black paint has
  323. some
  324.           scratches that could probably be buffed off, silver paint

  326.           been repainted grey (it looks nice, but it's the wrong

  332.         Hallicrafters S-38C, 1948 vintage low-end GC receiver.
  333. Cosmetically
  334.           very good. The grey case has a few scratches and one chipped
  335. knob
  336.           but it looks good overall. The back is missing. It works but
  337. the
  338.           controls are scratchy and I suspect the electrolytics are
  339. going. $29
  340.         Hallicrafters S-38E, 1950s vintage low-end GC receiver, last
  341. of the
  342.           38s with re-designed front panel. Cabinet is very good
  343. including the
  344.           back. The dial works and is clean. Electrically similar to
  345. the above,
  346.           scratchy controls and re-cap work probably desirable. $39
